(Albany, US) DelveInsight has launched a new report on ” Heavy Metal Poisoning Market Insights, Epidemiology, and Market Forecast-2030

DelveInsight’s ” Heavy Metal Poisoning Market Insights, Epidemiology, and Market Forecast-2030″ report delivers an in-depth understanding of the Heavy Metal Poisoning, historical and forecasted epidemiology as well as the Heavy Metal Poisoning market trends in the United States, EU5 (Germany, Spain, Italy, France, and United Kingdom) and Japan.

Some of Heavy Metal Poisoning Facts:

  • The 2013 Annual Report of the American Association of Poison Control Centers’ National Poison Data System documented about 1300 single exposures to mercury or compounds containing mercury. Of these, 109 were in children younger than 6 years and 673 were in persons older than 19 years.
  • Between 1996 and 2017, there were 1313 deaths in the cohort (including 181 cardiovascular and 33 respiratory) reported in France. Exposure to the anthropogenic metals was associated with an increased risk of natural-cause mortality (hazard ratio of 1.16 [1.08–1.24] per interquartile range of exposure), while metals from natural sources were not (Lequy et al, 2019).
  • In 2016, the National Poisoning Data System (NPDS) of the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) reported 2412 single exposures to lead. Of those exposures, 1188 were in children younger than 6 years, and 671 were in patients older than 19 years.

Heavy metal poisoning refers to a medical condition when excessive exposure to a heavy metal primarily affects the normal function of the body. Lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, and chromium are some of the most common examples of heavy metals that may cause toxicity.

Exposure to the heavy metals can occur through diet, drugs, the environment, or during work or play, they can also enter the body via the skin, by inhalation or ingestion.

Most of the heavy metals, such as zinc, copper , chromium, iron and manganese, are important in very limited quantities for metabolic process. However, if these metals accumulate in concentrations in the body that are sufficient to cause poisoning, serious harm can occur. In addition to this, the toxicity can result either from sudden and severe exposure or from the chronic exposure with the progression of time. The signs and symptoms of heavy metal toxicity differ depending on the type of metal involved, the amount ingested, and the age of the person exposed, young children , for example, are more vulnerable to the effects of lead exposure because, relative to adults, they consume more and their brains are still in the developmental or growing stage. The typical symptoms of acute metal ingestion comprises of nausea , vomiting, diarrhea , and abdominal pain. Chronic exposure can cause numerous symptoms caused by organ damage and may increase the risk of cancer.

Depending on the symptoms the patient exhibits, the diagnostic process is carried out. A heavy metal blood test is a group of tests that measure the levels of potentially harmful metals in the blood. The most common metals tested for are lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium. Metals that are less commonly tested for include copper, zinc, aluminum, and thallium. Apart from this, kidney function tests, liver function studies, urine analysis, hair analysis, fingernail analysis, ectroardiogram, X-rays are also performed.

The main treatment of heavy metal poisoning is termination of exposure to the metal. It comprises of the use of various chelating agents that cause the toxic (poison) element to bind with the drug and be excreted in the urine.
