It was a mixed day of the Indian players on Thursday since Pusarla Venkata Sindhu defeated Hungarian Laura Sarosi by winning both sets in badminton singles.

Sindhu had the grip right from the beginning and did not give her opponent any chance to be near her score. The 21-year-old Indian badminton player will now play against Michelle Li of Canada on Sunday, August 14. Victory came in the pocket of Saina Nehwal who thrashed Vicente Lohaynny of Brazil by 21-17, 21-17.  It was not easy for her to keep focused as Brazilian supporters were backing Vicente throughout.

Lohaynny did well and tried to gain points whenever possible. However, it was Saina’s efforts that paid off in the end after she upped her game. In Men’s tournament, Indian hockey team was defeated by Netherlands after failing to capitalize penalty corners that came one after the other despite the end of 4th round. They went down 1-2.
